"My newest assemblage as called “The White House”. Movable people within to take focus in the four frames, and a smell flame light in the center to create shadows, this piece has a lot of meaning and symbolism to me."
- John DuVall
How do we assign value to others? In these images of people long gone, how do we perceive them based on a picture alone? The name of “The White House” evokes the idea of presidential portraits. Does moving the people in and out of the picture frames in this assemblage change their importance or status? Some people have a small charm attached to the base, inviting us to interpret what that charm represents to or of that figure. The back of each person is blacked out, leaving the small light in the middle to cast shadows and illuminate this side.
How do you interpret this “White House”?
