During one of the hardest times of my life. When my creativity had left me and I was searching for something — anything — to hold onto. I poured ocean blue mica powder and copper mica powder into a resin mold. I swirled them together. I let it harden. And I put it on a shelf.
And I made it through.
Years later I put this blank on the lathe for the first time. And found out what it was always meant to become.
Ocean blue swirling around copper. Deep and iridescent. Like the ocean floor lit by sunlight. Like something that has never existed before and can never be duplicated.
Because it hasn’t. And it can’t.
This pen was hand turned from a resin blank I poured myself. Sanded from 100 grit through to 400. Polished through four stages until it feels like silk in your hand. The slimline design makes it light and perfectly balanced.
The blue catches the light one way. The copper catches it another. Every time you pick it up it looks slightly different. That’s not a flaw. That’s what it is.
I made this in the dark. It became something beautiful in the light.
